After being in business for more than 20 years, a Rolling Stones-themed bar in Toronto has fallen victim to COVID-19.
Announcing their decision on Tuesday, the owners of Stones Place say they can no longer stay afloat amid coronavirus restrictions. "It's hard to keep up with bills when there's no income coming in," says manager Laura McIsaac. Although the establishment took advantage of Canada's financial assistance for small businesses, the money still wasn't enough to cover its huge property tax bill, McIsaac adds.
Stones Place first opened its doors in 2000, making the popular nightspot one of only two bars in the area that have been around for more than two decades. "I think it's really sad that we kind of went out this way after everything that we've overcome already," McIsaac says.
