U.S. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper are reportedly open to bipartisan conversations about renaming U.S. bases and installations that are named after Confederate soldiers, according to CBS News.
While the two are open to considering removing the names of Confederate soldiers an Army official added in a statement Monday that "Each Army installation is named for a soldier who holds a significant place in our military history."
Nearly a dozen Army installations are named after Confederate soldiers, including Fort Hood in Texas, Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia and Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
