Scientists say a mammoth fish is gone, wiped out, extinct.
According to research published in this week's "Science of The Total Environment," the giant Chinese paddlefish, A.K.A the Chinese swordfish, has been killed off by human activity.
The 23-feet-long species that dated back at least 150 million years was once common in the Yangtze River.
The last sighting in the wild was recorded in 2003 and there are none in captivity. Researchers say the last of the species likely died between 2005 and 2010.
