In what police are describing as "the most Boston thing that's ever happened," the theft of a trucked stuffed with $10,000 of lobster was thwarted when the crook crashed into another lobster truck.
The incident happened earlier this week after a 29-year-old man stole a truck from wholesaler Buy New England Lobsters. After noticing what was happening, several employees ran out of the company's headquarters, climbed into another lobster truck and gave chase, according to police records. At one point in the high-speed pursuit, the employees managed to get ahead of the thief and attempted to cut him off. The thief, however, put the pedal to the metal and crashed into the second truck, sending lobsters flying everywhere. He then took off on foot.
Apparently, the sight of the scattered lobsters didn't sit well with the employees, who then chased down the man and physically restrained him until police arrived, according to an incident report. The unidentified suspect has been charged with auto theft, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and threats to commit harm, the Boston PD reports.
