It was a scene that likely made male viewers close their legs and wince in pain: Phillies reliever Jose Alvarez took a line drive to the groin during Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.
The painful moment occurred during the first game of a double-header. Alvarez, who was nailed by a 105 miles-per-hour ball in the fifth inning, says the impact was even worse than it appeared because he wasn't wearing a cup. Nevertheless, the 31-year-old managed to recover the ball and lob it to first base before he collapsed on the mound in pain.
"It was pretty bad," Alvarez says. "Obviously, it hit me in my private parts. It's a pain that's hard to describe. But thank God, I'm feeling much better now. Everything was good in the hospital, nothing bad. Hopefully, I'll be good in a couple of days." The Phillies lost the game 3-2.
