The coronavirus pandemic is claiming the lives of more U.S. men than women, statistics reveal.
The higher male death rate exists even in states where more women have contracted the virus. For proof, look no further than Washington state, the initial U.S. coronavirus hot spot. There, men make up about 46 percent of all confirmed cases; however, they account for 55 percent of the state's deaths, data indicates. Similar imbalances have also been reported in Maryland, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Illinois and Virginia.
However, the virus continues to be most lethal for older U.S. residents. People who are 70 or older make up more than half of the country's coronavirus-related deaths, data confirms.
