Get to Know: Matt Loi

I've lived in Eastern Washington all my life. I grew up a second-generation fanatic of Led Zeppelin, which inspired me to pick up the bass guitar when I was 13. I studied engineering, music, and radio at EWU, getting my first on-air experience at the school's Jazz 89.5 KEWU, hosting shows that highlighted big band & swing, the blues, and fusion.

In early 2007 I started at iHeartMedia Spokane, getting the rich experience of working in nearly every department: Promotions, Engineering, Production, and Programming. From scaling the snowy Mica Peak for transmitter maintenance to chillin' in a cozy studio, it's been a wild ride so far!

These days you can see me around Spokane attending numerous concerts by local musicians. We have quite the community of local artists and I do everything I can to support them. When I'm not in attendance, I'm on stage playing bass guitar for Atlas Hugged and upright bass for Sweet Rebel D.

Another passion of mine is local railroad history. My Grandpa Joe was a brakeman for Union Pacific around Walla Walla back when the caboose was a mandatory part of the train. I find it fascinating to learn how much has changed since then. By this point, you can pick any railroad in Eastern Washington, current or abandoned, and I can tell you more about it than you'd care to know!
