Is now the right time to have a dental checkup? There is a disagreement between two major health organizations.
The World Health Organization recently said, "Routine non-essential care should be delayed until there has been a significant reduction in COVID-19 transmission rates." The reason is that dentists and hygienists come into very close contact with patients during an appointment.
The American Dental Association disagrees. A statement says, "Oral health is integral to overall health. Dentistry is essential health care."
The ADA says millions of patients have already safely visited dentists during the pandemic.
