Robbery Suspect Leads Spokane Police on Thrilling Rooftop Chase

In an incident that could have benefited from the help of Batman or Spider-Man, a robbery suspect running from police on Wednesday took the chase to city rooftops.

The incident began to unfold at about 9 a.m., when Spokane police responded to a domestic violence call in which a man reportedly ran off with a woman's purse, according police officer Joshua Laiva. Soon after, officers spotted the suspect and began chasing him on foot, Laiva says.

That's when the man, later identified as 28-year-old Christoper Smith, took the chase to a new level. He climbed a ladder leading to the roof of a local business and continued to flee atop the city's rooftops, per Laiva. Police finally nabbed Smith after surrounding the 24 Taps Burgers and Brews building, trapping him. He's facing a laundry list of felony and misdemeanor charges, police records indicate.
