Authorities arrested a 14-year-old boy Friday morning in connection with the abandonment and abuse of a dog found injured at Falls Park in Post Falls.

Officials said “Bridger” the dog, was found injured on July 21 in the park. Detectives followed up on numerous leads and interviewed potential witnesses with the help of the public. They were then able to arrest a suspect.

Post Falls Police said the suspect told them that he was unhappy with the animal. He said he got rid of the dog by injuring it and pushing it into the old Corbin Ditch to be left there to die.

“Bridger” was rescued and treated by Post Falls Police and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue.

The suspect is charged with cruelty to animals and is being held in the Kootenai County Juvenile correctional facility. His bond will be set on Monday.
