Only certain parts of northern Idaho could see a speed limit increase under a bill passed by lawmakers.
The bill would allow speed limits to increase to 80 miles per hour on interstates and 70 miles per hour on state highways.
If the bill were to pass, the decision to officially increase speed limits would be up to local Idaho Transportation Department districts.
The head traffic engineer for much of northern Idaho says there is potential to increase speed limits on some stretches of I-90, but it would be unlikely on Highway 95 because there aren't long, straight stretches.
Governor Butch Otter still has to sign the bill into law.
