Authorities said a man wielding a machete was arrested Saturday night for breaking into multiple homes on the lower South Hill.

Police said they were called to W. 9th and Maple around 6 p.m. for a report of a residential burglary. The victim said the suspect had a machete in his hand and walked into her apartment through a door that was open. She was able to push him out and lock the door.

Officers were checking the area for the suspect when another victim on the same block called describing a similar suspect. The victim said the man entered her home and she thought he was still inside. She said the suspect assaulted her but she was able to get away.

The suspect, Daniel Pajas, 28, was found hiding in a cabinet in the home. Police later found out that earlier in the day he had broke into another home in the area.

Pajas was arrested and charged with Residential Burglary and two counts of Burglary in the First Degree.
