The Bonners Ferry Police Department arrested a 12-year-old Bonners Ferry Middle School student in connection with a handwritten bomb threat that cleared campus Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said they responded to a possible bomb threat at the school around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.  School officials were notified of a handwritten threat that was on a bathroom wall.

Students were evacuated and officials searched lockers, classrooms and storage rooms. No bomb was found.

Investigators returned to the school Thursday to looking into students who were considered persons of interest.

Officers identified and arrested a suspect based on physical evidence recovered at the school. Officials said the student was released to his parent after police processed him.

The case will be submitted to the prosecuting attorney for possible charges of making a false bomb threat, which is a felony.
